Chen Chieh- Jen

The international artist Chen Chieh-Jen makes poetic movies that bring out peoples feelings. In his movies he has chosen too focus on Taiwan and they’re politic situation, he wants too bring up the powerlessness, pain and isolations.  In most off his videos he uses only black and white colour, everything is going in slow motion and with little or no sound. He is using this effects too show that this is the past and how it really was in that time. The exhibition showed three of his currents films – Empire Border’s I & II – Factory.

The exhibition is intended for young people at secondary school, which I think is completely wrong. The films are very hard to follow, especially for impatient youth. The artist wants too bring out strong emotions, which I do not believe he manage with such young people. I left the exhibition with nothing more than an impression off boredom. When the movies were that slow, they totally lost me and I did not got the point off them. I believe you must have some understanding of absurd art to understand these movies, so I think it would fit much better for art students or special interests.
